Marion Hall Best had a lengthy career as an interior designer (spanning over 40 years) and as you will see was not afraid of colour! I love the photos of the original hand painted colour chips Hall Best used for inspiration. Enjoy.

(Taken with my brand spankers new DSLR, so in love! Enjoying putting my eye to the viewfinder once again, and the sound of the photo being taken ch-kush. Love it)

I'm just loving all the chairs! Marion Hall Best was a fantastic designer. I love what Sibella Court did with this story. Looking forward to picking up this issue when it hits Vancouver.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your brand new camera - I can totally relate. ;)
Love, love, love Marion Hall Best ~ in fact the article was the reason I bought the Vogue Living issue last week!
ReplyDeleteSuch fantastic use of both pattern and colour.
Blue Fruit - me too!
ReplyDeleteI am off to buy a copy now .... love, love, love all of this colour!!
ReplyDeleteMarion was superb. For what she did as well as how she did it. Being a fabulous business woman in those times, introducing the broader public to Douglas Annand, Clement Meadmore, et al, and using those talented people close to her (Dora Sweetapple amongst others). I was involved in the Heritage Listing of one of the last Hall Best interiors - The Regent Cinema in Wollongong. Unfortunately, a lot of the signature glazed paint finishes have been destroyed by the current owners... Every time I see an article on Marion, I have a little arrow of sadness through my heart. She was outstanding, but so few people are willing to take a stand and protect what she made... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe I missed this article in Vogue Living. Do you know what issue it was in?
