baby

We have some big news to share. We are expecting a baby! Yesterday Andrew and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and today we had our bub's 20 week scan. Everything is in the right spot and the baby looks just perfect. I even started to feel it move last week which is the most amazing and comforting feeling. We are so happy to be finally starting a family. The first few months was tough with morning sickness (especially whilst on holiday in Hawaii, that was awesome. Not.) but I'm past that now and feeling really good.

I had no idea what kind of pic to use with this post as my baby bump is still pretty small, at that stage when people don't know whether to comment on whether you are pregnant or not (is that a food belly or baby belly???). So instead I used the photo of the Stokke cot that I am coveting for the baby's room. It can go from a small oval cot for newborns to a larger cot size and then transform into a toddler bed (and even chairs at a later stage if you want). It's quite the investment though so not sure if the budget will allow but we will wait and see. The only thing I have for the baby room is an Eames Hang-it-all which I put aside after I bought the walnut version last year.

At the moment I am working at trying to get as much done as I can before the baby arrives. I think January will be here before I know it. I don't think there will be any time for designing or experimenting then. The weirdest thing is we are going to put the house on the market soon and so I don't know in which house our little baby will live. Super weird feeling. Still have our eye on that little 70's house but we will wait to see if our home sells first. It has one tiny room which would be just perfect for a baby.

So. That's our big news, I'm really happy to finally be able to share it with you. Will post a pic of my bump soon, once it grows a little bigger.

  5. Congratulations! What wonderful news. I have a 6 month old and I have the Stokke bassinet, cot and change table. I bought the floor stock at a small local baby store (fortunately heavily discounted!) As I understand it, you would normally buy a cot and a kit to make it smaller into the bassinet. Can I just say by about 3 months of age my son was close to outgrowing the bassinet and by 4 months he was well and truly too large for it.

I love the cot and although I wasn't in love with the change table initially I've come to love the height of it (I don't like having to stoop over a lower change table and there's oodles of room to store stuff underneath).

Although the bassinet is adorable especially with that drape rod my honest opinion is that it can only be used for SUCH a limited time that it doesn't really represent value for money. However it's hard to be rational about decisions involving a precious baby! So if you love it go for it! :)

  6. Thanks everyone. xx

Catherine - that's really good to know, thanks! I was wondering if I should just go the cot option rather than the Sleepi mini - it's about $500 more. It's sooo cute though. I've been looking on ebay for a used one in good condition also. Thank you.

  8. Congratulations - Julie I am absolutely thrilled to hear your BIG news!

I can see why you are coveting the Stokke cot. Nothing that 'cool' was around when my first baby almost 20 years ago. I would love to do it all again now - just to deck the nursery out :)

  14. Massive congratulations!! That is huge news!
We splurged on a white stokke cot and our 2 year old is still using it (converted to bed). I love it. After he outgrows it we will convert it to two little chairs!

  16. CON.GRAT.U.LATIONS!!!! wonderful, happy, happy news! you will be a beautiful & creative mama :)
we have the stokke cot & i have loved it. & still love it. we didn't bother with the smaller conversion kit, so that made it quite a bit cheaper. i know it's a lot of money, but there are 3 things i have splurged on & never, ever regretted..
    1. stokke cot. (btw it's awesome how it's on wheels and you can move it around the house easily).
    2. bugaboo pram. no, it's not just for design snobs like some people like to make out! ours has been used & abused for 2 kids and is still going strong. the baby bassinet of the bugaboo is soo good for little newborns & we found that they would happily sleep in there while you get out and about. i love how you can change whether baby faces you while they're little or faces out to the world when they're a toddler.
    3. the stokke tripp-trapp highchair. seriously, you won't be able to stand the look of any other :)
    wow, world's longest comment!

  21. Such great news Julie! I have been MIA for awhile (a newborn tends to take up most of your time!) and have returned to see so many exciting things happening in people's lives! Congratulations :) You will love being a Mum!

P.S. I know how you feel about the Stokke. We splurged on an Ubabub cot (although it *was* 20% off!).

  30. Aww HUGE congratulations to you and what a happy post to discover your lovely blog! We have just had our first little boy two weeks ago - having upped sticks and moving to France and then back again (!) to the UK during my pregnancy - I am sure everything will fall into place for you in time for the babies arrival! My bunp didn't grow until I was into my 30th weeks and the middle part of the pregnancy was definately the most fun - so enjoy the end of your morning sickness! I will look forward to other 'baby posts' :-)
